4 Steps for Transitioning from Entrepreneurial Burnout to Successful CEO
Hey homies! We’re back this week to discuss a burning topic that you may have seen all over our socials: Becoming Un-F*ck-Withable. We’re sharing all our secrets about creating boundaries & systems in your service-based business that fuel you, your team, & your clients. Let’s jump in!
1. REDEFINING YOUR SELF-WORTH
When Becca first started Homemade Social, she learned a valuable lesson in redefining her self-worth: in order to make room for better things, you have to be willing to let go of things (and people) that don’t align with your goals. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for help, it is courageous and conducive to personal growth and business development. A few resources we highly recommend when in this stage of transitioning are:
🦋 Therapy
📱A Business Coach
🌸 A Communication Coach
✨ To Be Magnetic Membership & Podcast
Becoming the best version of you (whether it’s Boss, CEO, Freelancer, the list goes on) is a constant journey of self-improvement and growth. It's about leading by example, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture, and always staying open to feedback and new ideas.
We’ve learned that effective leadership means not just focusing on the bottom line, but also on the well-being and professional development of our team and ourselves. That’s why each of our chapters in The Soft SMM start with affirmations for you to incorporate into your daily routine. 💗
2. IDENTIFYING YOUR SWEET SPOT
What kind of social media manager do you want to be? Identifying your sweet spot looks something like this:
There are 4 types of social media managers:
👩💻 The Manager: Creates and oversees social campaigns and manages the social media presence for organizations. They often also engage with the brand’s social media community and are heavily involved in the day-to-day.
🤳 The Consultant: Strategizes social media campaigns, creates content, understands the social media environment. Works with the client to develop a social media strategy that the client is responsible for implementing.
📈 The Strategist: Responsible for developing strategies to increase followers, reviewing analytics, and communicating with key stakeholders in a company.
📱 The Content Creator: Creates photo and video content for brands to post on their social media accounts.
Knowing yourself and what route you want to take is going to be the first step in finding your sweet spot. It's not just about doing what you're good at, but doing what you love and what your client base values.
Once you’ve decided what direction you want to take it’s time to be your own biggest cheerleader. Market yourself anytime you can by creating an irresistible portfolio of your work and leveraging your website with SEO to expand your reach and build your credibility.
We know, this seems like a lot, but you can do this! Chapter 2 of The Soft SMM course walks through the EXACT steps Becca took to get where she is today - you’re not in this alone. ✨
3. SETTING YOUR BOUNDARIES
Social media may be on 24/7, but social media managers shouldn’t have to be. Creating a healthy work-life balance is imperative to, as we like to call it, Becoming Un-F*ck-Withable. Reevaluating priorities and establishing clear client boundaries is the only way to make it out with your sanity (if you know, you know).
Boundaries that have shaped Homemade Social’s success include:
👩💻 Office Hours
🌸 Approval Deadlines
🦋 Revision Limits
☁️ No Same-Day Calls
The reality is: boundaries need to be in place in order for you to succeed without reaching burnout. Setting clear boundaries, creating (and enforcing) a client contract, and having a crisis management plan in place for off-hour emergencies is crucial to the success of Homemade Social, and likely for your biz, too.
In business and outside of it, it’s important to remember that we’re all human at the end of the day. Holding a standard of professionalism is important, it sets the tone and builds trust with your clients, but you don’t want to lose touch of the personal side that makes those interactions meaningful. Whether it’s a friendly chat before a meeting, being able to laugh with your clients, sending holiday/special occasion greetings (you get the gist)... that’s what builds strong relationships and reminds your clients you’re more than just a business entity. Chapter 4 of The Soft SMM walks through every client boundary we have in place & how we ✨gently✨ reinforce them when necessary.
4. INVESTING IN THE RIGHT TOOLS
Investing in apps and tools when starting your own business can be very intimidating, but we’re here to help you navigate what tools you should (and shouldn’t) be investing in to get the best ROI. Focus on tools that address your immediate business needs. Whether it's project management, communication, or financial tracking, identifying your priorities will help you figure out what tools you need to set yourself & your biz up for success.
When considering what tools to use for your business, take scalability into account. You’ll want to choose tools that can grow with you and your business to ensure smooth transitions as you scale.
Our top apps that we use EVERY SINGLE DAY to run and scale Homemade Social are:
Acuity - for Calendar Bookings & Restrictions
Slack - for Team Communications
Dubsado - for Proposals, Contracts, & Forms
Quickbooks - for Billing
Gusto - for Payroll
OpenPhone - for Client Communication (use this link to get 10% off the first 3 months of your OpenPhone subscription!)
How we implement these tools (+ tons more!!) in our routine is broken down in Chapter 6 of our Soft SMM Course. 😉
