6 Ways to Stand Out On Instagram

We all love Instagram, it’s a great platform to promote your business and connect with other people, but with it being so saturated these days it seems like it’s getting harder and harder to make your Instagram stand out. That is why we have created this list of 6 things you can do to help make your Instagram stand out!

know your audience

Often times your audience on Instagram is going to be very similar, if not exactly the same, as your business’s target audience so keep that in mind when you are posting. One tip to getting to know your audience is to create a follower persona, as this will help you get a feel for what types of posts your audience wants from you! What is he/she interested in? What do they do for fun? Questions like these will help you connect better with your followers and be able to post content they are actually excited to see.

Pro tip: Conduct a series of surveys on Instagram Stories to learn more about what your audience and what they want to see from you!

post consistently

Consistency is key! When you don’t post often enough it is very possible that your posts won’t show up on your followers’ timeline because of the way the algorithm works. When you post regularly, there is a higher chance of improving your engagement, which in turn helps signal to the algorithm that your posts are worth seeing. Your posting schedule doesn’t have to be anything grueling, just post often enough to stay relevant to your followers, but make sure it is a schedule you are able to maintain.

Pro tip: Use a scheduling tool like Later or Planoly to ensure you post consistently.

curate a cohesive feel

Creating an aesthetic and cohesive grid is one of the best ways to attract new followers. Think of it as a first impression. This may be the first time someone comes in contact with your brand so you want it to send the right message! Your grid is the perfect way to showcase what your brand is all about and the general mood you are trying to set.

post content that is saveable & shareable

Aside from just posting regularly, you want to make sure that you are posting content that people want to come back to. Posting photos with meaning that people are able to relate to usually makes them want to share this with their followers - which means more exposure for you! This could be anything from a cute graphic to a quote, to even a relatable photo or meme.

utilize your captions

Don’t underestimate the power of a good Instagram caption! Although Instagram is a predominantly visual platform the captions are what create a relationship with your followers, so it is important that you use them wisely and to tell a story.

Oftentimes, we find that these two formats receive the most engagement:

  1. Short, witty captions that compliment the photo

  2. Long, spaced-out, and detailed captions that either tell a story, provide tips, or educate users about something relevant to that account
