3 Shots to Capture at Your Next Brand Photoshoot

Your brand’s online presence is typically only as strong as the assets you have to work with, which is why we encourage all of our clients to invest in fresh, strong photography on a quarterly basis. Read on for three shots to capture at every brand photoshoot!

SHOT #1: PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY

The first shot you can expect to see on every brand’s content wishlist is updated photos of their product. Simplistic by nature, these photos keep the product as the sole focus of the shot by styling it in front of an on-brand backdrop. Whether you’re looking for a solid colored background or a kitchen-esque tile“backsplash,” one of our go-to shops for ordering backdrops is Replica Surfaces.

Contrary to popular belief, product photography doesn’t have to be boring, so don’t let the simplicity of these shots cloud your creativity. Instead, add visual interest to your product shots by:

  • Creating levels through risers

  • Using mirrored props for reflective details

  • Incorporating shadows from not-pictured brand photoshoot props (ie palm leaves)

  • Using clear acrylic trays to incorporate water splashes/droplets into the shot, if relevant

  • And more! The possibilites are endless. We love browsing Prop Face for brand photoshoot prop and backdrop inspo.

Product photography is often shot with e-commerce (aka websites) and catalogues top of mind. As a result, most photos are taken horizontally, BUT IT’S 2023 PEOPLE. 🤦 Be sure to capture a substantial amount of vertical photos as well to keep your social media manager happy.

SHOT #2: LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY

Lifestyle shots, on the other hand, are a more creative approach to brand photography that allows consumers to better visualize how the product fits into their real or everyday life. These shots feature curated “scenes” that showcase the product in use, often by models (though not required).

When it comes to lifestyle photography, remember that the best Instagram grids are a balance of simple and “busy” photos, so keep this in mind when planning your desired brand photoshoot prop and shot  lists.

SHOT #3: ACTION VIDEOS OR GIFS

If we’re being real, gone are the days of still photo-only shoots. With social platforms pushing video content like crazy and audiences craving relatability more than ever before, it’s crucial for brands to curate a Reels (or GIF) shot list of their product in action. If nothing else, aim to capture at least behind the scenes videos of the shoot. Having a bank of video clips in your inventory will only be to your benefit on social - trust us!
