July Social Media Trends Recap & August Predictions
Hi there, homies! 🤠👋 It’s been a busy month in the world of social media trends… but really, when isn’t it? Let’s get you up to speed on what was trending in July!
SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #1: GIMME 14 OF ‘EM
Leave it to TikTok to make our UGC opportunities ✨endless.✨With 36.3 million views on the original video and over 31,000 uses under the original sound, it’s nearly impossible to not have heard the “Spectacular, gimme 14 of ‘em right now,” as you scroll through your FYP.
This sound is a literal goldmine for brands everywhere, as users use it to talk about their favorite products. Additionally, brands have been leveraging this sound to make their own content. This sound has been versatile enough to be used by a wide variety of brands, including RuPaul Chocolate Bars, Rare Beauty, and Pleasing.
SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #2: IS SOMEBODY GONNA MATCH MY FREAK?
Matching your freak or matching your energy…. call it want you want — but brands have been taking Tinashe’s viral hit, “Nasty Girl,” and running with this social media trend. This has gone so viral, that there have been multiple variations. The most popular is a remix of the song with Beach House’s “Space Song,” which offers a humorous juxtaposition of upbeat dance music with a slowed-down, sadder song. Despite variations of the actual sound, the trend is people sharing their interests and habits (good or bad 🤭), while not-so-subtly looking for an audience that relates.
Brands like the Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team and DuoLingo have matched the internet’s freak with this trend… and we could not get enough!
SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #3: A BLAST FROM THE PAST
We’re all fully aware of how nostalgia hits the spot every 👏 time 👏and we’re loving this take on throwback content! We’ve seen an increase in brands, making their content an ode to vintage media, magazines, and advertising.
As per usual, Lemme is at the forefront of this trend. They’ve been taking the aesthetics of magazines and workout videos from the 80’s to launch their most recent drop, Lemme Wake Up.
We were also obsessed with R.E.M. Beauty’s vintage-mag-inspired graphics for their foundations and other products, and their followers have too. Chamberlain Coffee also released a Y2K Claymation-inspired advertisement that has not left our minds. With comments like, “pls keep this aesthetic forever omg,” we wouldn’t be surprised if this trending style stuck around for a while.
SOCIAL MEDIA TREND #4: LOVE ISLAND USA
Let’s face it — it’s kiiind of a given that whatever dating show is airing is going to be the next social media trend… but we’re not complaining. 🤷♀️ Last month, it was Love Island USA’s turn. They took over our IG timelines and TikTok FYPs with all the drama, and with that, came even more content ideas!
I’m sure we all remember this: at the beginning of the season, Love Island dropped a TikTok featuring each of the boys on the villa singing their types. This sound was an instant hit, and even we were guilty of taking part in this one (hehe). Oother brands were also able to use this sound to promote their products, like Kelsey Jade Collections.
August Predictions
Your August forecast just dropped! 🚨 We can expect to see brands getting ready for Q4 content with teasers, a transition away from long-form content on IG, content from the Olympics, and a continuation of using AI to manipulate sizing.
