How You Can Support #BlackLivesMatter on Social Media

To help fight the systematic racism, we have to understand it first. If you don’t know what to do about racism and white supremacy, getting started on educating yourself and acknowledging your own white privilege and unconscious prejudice is a good place to start. - ENFNTS TERRIBLES

ENFNTS TERRIBLES is a great resource that goes over so many different resources we can use to educate ourselves and make REAL changes. The website is spreading the word about all of the things you can do to fight back against the systemic racism in our society. From books to read, podcasts to listen to, movies and series to watch, organizations to donate to, and petitions to sign. It’s all there.

Social media is a great place to speak your voice and fight for change. This can’t be just a ‘trending’ topic that is going to blow over, it must continue until there is justice. We need to band together to amplify Black voices and ensure that justice is reached in society. Social media isn’t just a spot to share about your life— it is a place where we can actually make a difference in the world.

With the majority of our audience being very active on social media, here is what you can do on YOUR social media to support:

  • Share/Repost resources on the following you find no matter how small you think your influence is:

    • How to educate yourself

    • Where to donate

    • Petitions to Sign

    • Encouragement and how-to’s on voting

    • Scripts on what to say when making calls or emails

    • Black businesses to support

    • Mental health resources for black people

  • Speak your voice on what you’re doing to develop change

  • Can’t find a graphic that really resonates with you? Make one!

It is important to note that one repost on social media does not give you a pass. Reposting does provide more awareness to your followers, but YOU also need to contribute. Following through with action is what will cause the change that we need right now. Whether that means donating, volunteering, having conversations with loved ones, or signing petitions, being involved in what you preach is ESSENTIAL. Do not stay silent, continue to educate and donate and support even when offline. That is the most important.
