How IG Story Likes Create Valuable Real Estate for Brands and Influencers

In case you missed it, Instagram recently rolled out private story likes - a feature that allows you to like any user’s IG Story. Unlike feed posts that have public likes enabled, IG story likes do not have like counts and are only visible to the user who published the IG Story.

To like a story on Instagram, tap on the heart icon in between the “Send Message” and arrow icon.

Rather than the story like sending via DM and cluttering your message thread with the user, all private story likes show up in the IG Story’s viewer sheet. Users that have liked the story will appear at the top of the viewer sheet and will have a heart icon next to their profile picture.

WHY IT MATTERS

This order creates valuable real estate for brands and influencers looking to get on an account’s radar. Think about it like this: by liking the story of someone you’re strategically trying to build a relationship with, you’re pushing your account to show up at the top of their viewer sheet, regardless of whether or not they follow you back.

So the next time they go to look at who viewed their IG Story, they’re more likely to notice your account because it will show up at the top of their viewer sheet as a “like” and they won’t have to scroll through hundreds of viewers to ✨possibly✨ see your account. Needless to say, we'll be incorporating this strategy into our daily community management efforts on behalf of all clients over here at Homemade Social HQ.
