5 Ways to Grow Your Email List

We recently shared a blog post detailing how social media and email marketing go hand-in-hand when it comes to conversion, and SO many of you took interest in learning how to better leverage email marketing for your business and its corresponding goals. If you’re ready to guide an audience larger than ever before down your marketing funnel, read on for 5 ways to grow your email list this year!

CREATE A LEAD MAGNET

A lead magnet is a FREE valuable resource offered in exchange for information, like the consumer’s email address. The idea behind this is that you have to give some to gain some. In order to organically grow your email list, try to attract your audience with an irresistible offer. At Homemade Social, we do this by regularly releasing free downloads filled with our top social media tips, tricks, tools, and more!

Take, for example, our 30 Days of Instagram Reels Freebie. By providing only their name and email address, our audience unlocks a 17-page download filled with 30 unique Reels ideas, a list of our most recommended tools, and tips for getting started! Lead magnets like this are key to growing a quality email list because they attract and provide solutions for consumers with specific needs that are aligned with your business’ offerings.

Pro tip: once someone has opted into a freebie, set up tags and email sequences to up-sell them on a higher-ticket item. For instance, if someone downloaded our 30 Days of Reels Download, we might then tag that they are interested in Reels and send them emails that warm them up to purchasing our ReelTok Course. Lead magnets kill two birds with one stone!

Ready to get started? Here’s a list of 10 additional lead magnets that you may want to try:

  • Templates

  • Crash course

  • E-books

  • Checklists

  • Guides

  • Workbooks

  • Webinars

  • Consultations

  • Cheatsheets

  • Product Trials

HOST A GIVEAWAY

Hosting a giveaway on social media is a common tactic for growing your social media following, but why not put a twist on your next giveaway and make the entry requirement subscribing to your newsletter list instead?

You can even take this a step further by participating in a co-branded giveaway. The goal when doing this is to partner with brands that have a similar target audience to you, but is also not your competitor. This allows you to leverage one another’s audience without promoting a competitor.

Once participating brands are confirmed, create one landing page that all brands will share on their social media to collect entrants’ email addresses. Be sure to note that by entering into the giveaway, the entrant is agreeing to opt-into email updates from participating brands. At the conclusion of the giveaway, compile the email addresses into an Excel spreadsheet and share them with the participating brands to add to their email list.

ADD A WEBSITE POP-UP

Don’t have time to make a free resource or send out pitches for a co-branded giveaway? No problem. Consider adding a pop-up to your website that prompts users to opt into your newsletter!

Don’t be afraid to sneak the opt-in box into the footer of your website too, in case they initially opt-out and change their minds later. Accessibility is key. 👏

CREATE A QUIZ

A quiz is where our lead magnet and website pop-up strategies collide! Imagine having a pop-up appear on your website with language like “Not sure which social media platform your brand should be using? Take this quiz to find out!” Users will then take the quiz and be prompted to enter their email addresses in order to receive their results. This is another give-and-take scenario: you provide them with a solution to their question in exchange for receiving their email address.

SHARE TEASERS ON SOCIAL

Our fifth and final strategy for growing your email list is to share teasers on social media. Because our weekly social media newsletter goes out every Thursday at 4pm, we make it a priority to let our social media followers know in advance what they can expect in our upcoming newsletter. This motivates them to head to the link in our bio to subscribe to ensure they don’t miss out!
