How To Take Good Photos for Instagram When Taking Pictures With An iPhone
Have you ever wondered how people get such good Instagram photos? Probably because they have a nice camera, right? Wrong! Gone are the days of needing a fancy camera to get good photos. Wondering how to take good photos for Instagram when taking pictures with an iPhone? Read on for our top tips!
Subject
Whether the subject is your latte at the cutest coffee shop, your dog’s face when they are begging for a treat, or a picture of you and your friends, having a clear point of interest will make the photo clear and your followers will know what or who you are trying to showcase.
Using the grid feature on your iPhone will become your built-in best friend when taking your photos. This allows you to embrace the rule-of-thirds and make the subject clear.
The rule of thirds helps your photos stay balanced and makes sure that the audience will focus on what you want them to focus on.
Once you’ve nailed the rule of thirds, experiment with close-up and wide-angle shots. Close-up shots are great for showcasing a product and making the background unfocused to draw attention to the item you’re photographing. Wide-angle shots are great for landscape shots to encompass an entire scene in just one photo. Once you have this down, your photography game is going to a whole new level!
Lighting
Embrace natural light as much as you can. From dawn to dusk, the natural glow will always brighten your photos. We especially love taking photos at “golden hour” right before the sun sets for that beautiful, warm tone in our photos. For those nights out, use the flashlight from a friend’s phone to brighten up the shot a bit if there isn’t any good natural lighting. This also helps to minimize the harshness using flash can have.
Camera Tips
First things first, always clean off the camera on your iPhone. Between being in your hand, pocket and purse all in the last fifteen minutes, it’s bound to get dirty. By wiping off the lens, you ensure your photos won’t have weird blurs or glares!
Another one of our favorite tips is to always shoot in the camera app without a filter and not in Instagram. It allows you to use features that the camera app has, like pressing your finger on the screen where the subject is to focus the camera on what you want to showcase in the photo.
Editing the photo after gives you more options because you have the opportunity to play around with different edits and filters, whereas if you shot in one filter, you’d be stuck with it.
Mix it up
Lastly, have fun with it! Try different angles, lighting and backdrops to explore your creativity and get that perfect photo. Using different colors, patterns and backdrops are fun and eye catching - but don’t overdo it. Also, options are always better, while it may be a tough decision, you’ll be glad that you’ll have more choices because you’re bound to find one that everything, well, just works.
