4 New Features to Simplify IG Reels Creation Amidst Instagram’s Video Merge

Instagram is tripling down on their IG Reels emphasis by merging video features… again. Going forward, all new feed videos shorter than 15 minutes will now be shared as IG Reels. Though feed videos published prior to this change will not be affected, all will be consolidated into one video tab on each user’s profile.

To support the expansion and use of video on the platform, Instagram has also released 4 new features to simplify IG Reels creation. Keep reading to discover how to incorporate them into your content strategy!

IG REEL FEATURE #1: NEW REMIX FORMATS

Reels Remix allows anyone on Instagram to create a Reel that includes either another user’s content or content they themselves have previously posted. The platform has now released new Remix formats, including the ability to remix public Reels, feed videos, or photos. New remix format options include:

IG REEL REMIX #1: A LOOK-ALIKE TO TIKTOK’S DUET FEATURE

If you’re familiar with TikTok’s duet feature, this feature will look familiar to you. With this remix format, users can stack their Reel vertically or horizontally next to another creator’s content. This format can be a great way to show your reaction to another creator’s content!

IG REEL REMIX #2: A LOOK-ALIKE TO TIKTOK’S STITCH FEATURE

The second remix format is a mere copy of TikTok’s Stitch feature, which allows users to combine another video on the platform with the one their creating. Essentially, users can add their clip after the original video they are remixing. This is a great way for users to share their hot take or build upon something that was shared by another creator (or maybe something they shared themselves in the past!).

Interested in incorporating one of these remix options into your next content creation sesh? Here’s a look at how to remix a video or photo on Instagram:

IG REEL FEATURE #2: GREEN SCREEN

Ask you shall receive. Green screen is now an available effect for IG Reels! This effect allows you to place video footage of yourself on top of a set photo or video background of your choice. This tool is one of our favorites for educating our audience or sharing a tutorial!

Here’s how to try it out for yourself:

IG REEL FEATURE #3: INSTAGRAM REEL TEMPLATES

Have you ever seen an IG Reel with editing so flawless that you’d love to replicate it? Allow us to introduce you to IG Reel Templates. Currently in testing with a small percentage of Instagram creators, this feature will allow users to automatically create a template that mirrors the exact editing cuts of an existing Reel. Users can then plug and play their own videos and images into the IG Reel Template.

We anticipate this streamlining of the creation process is likely Instagram’s attempt to encourage users to make Reels directly in the Instagram app, as opposed to third-party platforms like TikTok.

IG REEL FEATURE #4: DUAL RECORDING

This one is giving BeReal energy. With this Reel feature, users can simultaneously record content with their phone’s back camera, while also recording their reaction with their front camera. Slowly rolling out to users, this could be a great tool to show off a new product or give a tour, while still letting your audience see your face and what you have to say.
