4 Lessons We’ve Learned Offering IG Reels + TikTok as a Service

With the rise of IG Reels and TikTok, there’s no denying that there’s been a learning curve for agencies when it comes to navigating how to offer this complex channel as a service. Our biggest lessons have all come down to one thing: processes.

Read on to discover a few ways we’ve streamlined our IG Reel + TikTok creation process from ideation to publishing!

THE IDEATION PROCESS

The work that goes into creating a TikTok and IG Reel begins far before clicking record. Before filming, it’s important for us to document client content requests and current trends circulating TikTok. Additionally, some TikToks and IG Reels require scripts and “shot lists” to be created prior to creation.

We’ve learned that planning out and gaining approval of as much information about the video as possible prior to filming is key to limiting the number of edits received from the client once created.

Because we wanted to account for all of these details in one place, our IG Reels & TikTok Brainstorm Spreadsheet was born! Available in our online shop, this download is our go-to resource for:

  • Logging Instagram Reel/TikTok content requests from clients

  • Keeping track of trending audio, filters, challenges, and hashtags

  • Creating scripts

  • Assigning content creation to members of our team

  • Obtaining approval from our internal team and/or clients

  • Tracking the progress of each TikTok/Instagram Reel from conceptualization to publishing

THE FILMING PROCESS

While being available on a regular basis to hop on in-the-moment, viral trends is important, we learned it’s important to block out time at our clients’ quarterly photoshoots to capture some evergreen video content as well. If you typically provide your clients with 25 images, consider changing your deliverables to 15 images and 5 edited videos to support a holistic social media strategy.

Here’s another approach: when it comes to TikTok, it’s important to think like a marketer but act like a creative. What better way to accomplish this than by collaborating with the experts themselves? We often encourage our clients to add Influencer Outreach onto their package in tandem with IG Reels + TikTok to further increase the brand’s inventory of video content available for them to post.

THE EDITING PROCESS

Once the content was filmed, we were in need of a collaborative video editing software that all of our team members could have access to all files at all times. Enter Clipchamp: an online platform that’s essentially like Canva, but for video.

As a free video creation and editing website, this user-friendly tool is our go-to for compiling the following into one video:

  • Video clips

  • Images

  • Audio files

  • Text

  • Transitions

  • Effects

THE APPROVAL + PUBLISHING PROCESS

Once the edited video is approved by our internal team in the IG Reels + TikTok Brainstorming Spreadsheet, the video is then uploaded to our scheduling + publishing tool, Later, and emailed to the client along with other weekly content for their review (ie static feed posts, captions, etc.).

Because the Later link to preview content expires in 48 hours, clients have 48 to submit one round of revisions. Because edits for video content can be time-consuming and complex, we’ve learned that enforcing this turnaround time and revision limit is crucial to ensuring detailed feedback is provided in a timely manner and delays in services are prevented.
