2021 SOCIAL MEDIA TREND PREDICTIONS
After facing so much uncertainty in 2020, you’re likely wondering what 2021 will have in store for the social media marketing industry. We’re ready to turn the page just as much as you all, but first we had to spend some time conducting research on previous trends and the future direction of social media platforms so that we can walk into the new year with our best foot forward.
With that, we’re here to bring you our list of social media trends for 2021. Enjoy!
SOCIAL MEDIA TREND 1: SHOPPING
We can expect to see more brands and consumers embracing the shift to social media shopping this year. As physical storefronts continue to face adversity due to the rise in e-commerce activity, more and more businesses will recognize the value of their online presence and accessibility. What makes a brand more accessible than meeting their audience right where they’re at on social media? Nothing.
No longer does your social content need to direct an audience to your website. Instead, Instagram and Facebook shopping is a direct buying approach that allows consumers to discover, browse, and purchase your products all in the social app itself. Talk about streamlining the buying process for your consumer!
SOCIAL MEDIA TREND 2: “FEEL GOOD” CONTENT
It comes as no surprise that memes will continue to trump all in 2021. I mean… who doesn’t love a good meme, right? The content is both entertaining and shareable, so it’s really a win-win for the consumer and creator alike! Consumers will enjoy the content put out, while creators reap the benefits of expanding their reach through shares because the content is just THAT good.
Another example of “feel good” content that we can expect to see in 2021 is nostalgic content. Don’t we all just want to remember the good ‘ol days? Incorporating memes or references to the early 2000s, 90s, and so on is something we think audiences will really enjoy and resonate with this year. Start pulling out all the NSYNC, Clueless, and Friends GIFs because your audience is going to love mixing in the old with the new!
SOCIAL MEDIA TREND 3: DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Let’s first start by saying that this is not a trend, but a MOVEMENT. In 2021, we believe both business and personal brands will continue to advocate for and promote diversity and inclusion on social media. 2020 ignited an eye-opening fire for many and 2021 is the opportunity to continue making that change.
In addition, we can expect to see an overall increase in real conversations and standing up for various beliefs and causes across social platforms.
SOCIAL MEDIA TREND 4: REELS & VIDEO CONTENT
Helloooo, video content! While this form of content can be the most time consuming to brainstorm and make, we have seen the most follower growth by participating in this trend.
Just in 2020’s Q4 alone (you can check out our analytics report reveal here), Homemade Social’s Instagram saw a 91% growth rate! Why? We had a strong and consistent social media strategy in place and took advantage of REELS!!! We strongly encourage everyone to hop on the Reels bandwagon to start expanding their reach this year as well. SOCIAL MEDIA TREND 5: ADAPTABILITY OF MARKETERS
Say it ain’t so! If any marketers were planning on leaving their agility in 2020, think again. We know it’s not fun, but expect the unexpected in 2021 by being willing and able to adjust your social strategy and budget within a moment’s notice. Our top tip is to encourage each of your clients to have a crisis communication plan in place. If an emergency were to arise, it is important for you to know how to contact them in off-hours in case something is in need of their approval immediately and the course of action to take if a message needs to be constructed and published.
